KRAMA COMBO

Graphic Research, 2018
In partnership with the Artisans of Angkor
Project developed during my master degree at École Boulle

Krama is a traditional Cambodian woven textile, an integral part of the country’s cultural heritage. It is a checkered cotton fabric created by crossing white bands with another color, often red, blue, or purple. Typically worn by rural communities, the krama carries both practical and symbolic value.

For this project, I sought to highlight the graphic richness of the krama and pay tribute to the vibrant checkerboard patterns worn daily by so many. As part of the research process, I created a series of visual experiments and pattern studies, exploring variations in color combinations, scale, and composition to reinterpret this iconic textile in a contemporary graphic language.
